Lesson 8 I had to reflect at the social harms we had to deal with at sour site and what comes to my mind is one patient who was an MDR TB trial participant who was very ill. The doctors from the site had to book him off work because of his health condition. He was unhappy because of the type of work he was doing was no work no pay and he was a bread winner at home, he just wanted to back to work. The clinical site socialworker had to intervine and discuss with his HR to discuss if there was any form of income he could recieve from work because he was the breadwinner at home. Patient was advised to go to the department labour and he benefited from the uneployment insurance fund. He was not even aware of this fund.
NombuyiseloMemberWe are experiencing the same problem im my community, there have been reports of patients being mugged of their ARVs and some sell their antiretrovirals, from what we heard from the community is that they combine heroin and ARVs into a coctail and they get high, this coctail is called Nyaope or Whoonga. The biggest concerned here is the HIV virus drugs and resistence .
