As it is described, Formative research activities enables research teams to gain an informed understanding of local population, its socio- culture norms and practices, local perceptions, etc, this can only be achieved by identifying relevant stakeholders. Eg; CAB members and having meetings with them. It is in such arrangements that the above information could be obtained.
The formative research and community engagement seem to be alike in that the objectives are the same. getting informed.
Research teams and PIs and CAB members have had meetings before and during the trials, and CAB members have arranged meetings with identified community stakeholders and research teams. In such arrangements most conerns from both ends are addressed.

The common victims are female. Very few cases, where male are victims, are reported or end up in courts. This is so because men, out of pride and avoiding shame or being laughed at, they keep such cases indoors.

MarkMemberIn my community drug abuse does exist but it is not done openly or in public. The drug am refering to and frequently abused is Marijuana. Those found in possesion of these drugs get arrested and the community members report those in possesion or use these drugs. I have reported three such cases to the Drug enforcement commission, the government wing which deals with such cases.
The only effective way am familiar with, to reduce drug abuse is for the community to get involved and work together with police and intensify education about the dangers of drug abuse.
MarkMemberOpposition of the Trial may arise due to social harms (Stigma or discrimination) that are determined to be associated with Trial participation
Action; Research Team work closely with relevant Stakeholders in developing issues management plan prior to Trial implementation. This way Research teams are better equpped to deal with issues as they arise and are more likely to avert a crisis.
MarkMemberThe stakeholders who do not support the Trial have all the rights to do so, and do have reasons or concerns of their own. It is therefore of vital importance to engage them in serious discussions or meetings where their concerns can be addressed.

MarkMemberThe role of stakeholders in developing Trial results is first and foremost they have tobe engaged in the whole life cycle of the Trial, understand the Trial objectives and wha is expected of it (positive or negative results). This process prepares their minds on a good note and be able and with confidence to participate in results disimination.

MarkMemberIt is difficult for me to tell to what extent the Research team understand the value of stakeholder engagement, but the fact that they talk about it and encourge this practice with much emphasis, they do value it to some level worth appreciating.
