I agree with you Nokulunga, protests can affect study visits and recruitment’s but if the stakeholders are well engaged many times they would give information upfront before the riots so that the study team is able to plan ahead.

The module has helped me understand the differences, i think i can now be able to write up a very good proposal. I got to understand that goals are the big picture that one should look at when engaging stakeholders, objectives are the specific results out of stakeholder engagement, and the activities are the different actions you put together to achieve the objectives and goals.

Thanks for all the responses which are very educative, what about in instances where police does not address these issues reported directly to them because of their corrupt tendencies? let us put into consideration that cultural traits also cause SGBV, therefore there is need to tap into the root causes of SGBV which is becoming one of the HIV pandemic drivers. How do we uproot the real causes and address them with the best interests of the communities at the center?

They should be involved in order to give the picture on the other side of the coin.

There are some efforts made to understand the value of stake holder engagement in my organisation, the building of a Community Advisory Board, the community office in the organisation, the Regulatory affairs office which regulates and listens to the voices of the trial participant, meetings are held before, between and after any trials with the research participants.

How ever the broader picture of engagement is still lacking, some stake holders are only engaged at the beginning of any research but may never know what went on and how it ended.

The gap is still there for the team to understand broadly the value of stake holder engagement.
