I have 10 years of experience in HIV clinical research that includes over 15 HIV therapeutics and preventive studies. I began in HIV research as a study nurse in which I was responsible for recruiting volunteers, assisting the principal investigators in obtaining informed consent and performing procedures according to the protocols for several studies on new antiretroviral drugs. This gave me a true appreciation of the complexity of clinical research and the importance of volunteers’ confidentiality and safety. I was subsequently promoted to a clinical trial monitor in which I was responsible for coordinating and monitoring sites in Thailand for an NIH-funded study on when to start antiretroviral therapy in adults (The Staccato and SMART study). I was also responsible for institutional review boards and the Food and Drug Administration (for study drugs importation) submissions for these sites. This gave me additional experience on the coordination between a large team of researchers and the regulatory aspects of clinical trials. And I have 4 years experience in head clinical research associate in the pharmaceutical industry. I joined the South East Asia Research Collaboration with Hawaii (SEARCH) in 2010. SEARCH is collaboration between the University of Hawaii, the US Armed Forces Research Institute for Medical Science and the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Center to conduct HIV research. As the MSM Manager programs, SEARCH, Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre (TRC-ARC), I have the leadership to coordinate the works to support the conduct of all MSM studies.
