    Hi Dagna,

this will help a lot. MSM stakeholder groups are informed and can be of great in this regard.

in reply to: Lesson 8 Discussion Question #4051

<strong style=”line-height: 1.5em;”>How would your team or site handle this situation?

    • we will look for activist organisation that work with MSM
    • we will explain the purpose of the study and partner with them for community education
    • we will also conduct workshops together with the for our CAG and do gender sensitization
    • we will also try to have pear educators from MSM

What could possibly have been done in advance to try to avoid this occurrence?

    • you will need to operate as MSM do to avoid confrontation by community members who are not informed
    • learn from MSM community how they survive acts of the community
    • engage gatekeepers and identify leaders that are able to protect MSM

<span style=”line-height: 1.5em;”>1) one of the successful stakeholder engagement in protocol and /or IC development: our CAG members are given the opportunity to be part of the protocol development team and after the protocol has been developed, they are also given an opportunity to review the ICF</span>

2)We would call the CAG and give them an opportunity to review the final document and if they have suggestions we will send them back to the sponsor. even if a the sponsor send a final document, the site still has to send its document to an ethics committee. before they send the is an opportunity for community members to comment.

in reply to: Lesson 6 Discussion Question #3983

HI Erica, we almost to do the same thing. we present the protocol to our CAG and they also review the ICF. after they have put their comments is then know it send to ethics committee.

Hi Alice, great work, what happened to the parents of the participant? where they part of the meeting were community education took place?

in reply to: Lesson 5 Discussion Question #3887

    1) How has social media and online communication affected your trial communication planning and engagement strategies with stakeholders?

    2) Have you ever experienced unexpected issues at your trial site or in your research context? How were they handled? What lessons were learned?

Social media and online communication have not affected our communication with stakeholders. however social media is used a lot in our community.

The was rumor at one stage in a certain part of the community were somebody said we are giving people HIV. the information was brought to our attention by a CAG member and CAG members together with the community engagement team organised a meeting with community for an information session. the meeting went very well. we learned that community education is a shared responsibility between site and the CAG.

in reply to: Is recruitment a strategic engagement objective? #3732

Recruitment is key in any trial but i think it is not a key engagement objective. before we can recruit we have to engage the different stakeholders. though we consider trial participants as stakeholder we do not starts with them. when it comes to outcomes i think trial outcomes becomes key objective because if we do not handle trial outcomes accordingly, either Favourable or unfavourable they may affect how we conduct trial in the community and support we have.

    1. at our site we used have stakeholders that were mainly worked with TB and HIV patients and that worked because they were trusted by the community and their work was voluntary. however we had to adapt because most people who worked in these sector were now employed by the government. one other thing during this time we realized that our CAG was one sector based. we stated to introduce other sectors that worked with the community  and now our CAG has people work in government, trade unions, activist, Traditional healers, LGBTI and NGO’s working with TB and HIV patients.

    2. one of the things we did at our side is to show our CAG members that, as people who are involved in community work and want to bring change. being part of the CAG is part of the change they are pursuing and they can incorporate their daily work and their role as the bridge between the side and the community.

in reply to: Lesson 3 Discussion Question #3673

that discussion with your CAB and other stakeholders will go a long way Erica. CAB will be of great help.

in reply to: Lesson 3 Discussion Question #3672

formative research is what we do to ensure we have the basics rights about the population we what to engage with. community engagement is plan design to ensure that our community is well informed about our research and how we will address potential problems.

the difference between the two is that formative research is what you found out about a particular community and community engagement blue print of how you speak with these community.

we were looking for low risk areas and the CAB assisted in doing community mapping  and identify areas were the low risk participants.

gender based violence in our community are reported to the police. though most of the cases are not reported, some victims feels it is family matter, family members intervene. however the bottom line is that most cases are not reported.

in reply to: Lesson 2 Discussion Question #3555

    Hi everyone,

Describe a benefit that you have experienced of conducting stakeholder engagement. For your example, list a measurable indicator or metric  of success.

one of the benefit that i have experience with stakeholder engagement was when we straggled with partners of female participants. female participants had problems attending some of their study visit.

We partnered with organisations that work with men and invited the police. we organised games, spoke about research and community involvement and police spoke about crime and their need for community support. from that community event we experienced a higher number of males who participated in our research studies. We had successful events were participants invited their partners to our site.

in reply to: HIV epidemic in your community ? #3458

no, in my community mother to child had no great up take. our community health centre did great job and they have started most female on ART’s to prevent mother to child.

in reply to: Lesson 1 Discussion Question #3290

To what extent does the research team with whom you work have an understanding of the value of stakeholder engagement? Explain your answer.

from my site, i thin they do.

    • our research team doctors value stakeholder meetings and if invited to a dress they avail themselves.
    • team members know and appreciate that before we begin a trial our community advisory group should be involve from the word go.
    • support for our community advisory group is great.
    • other staff members know they value of stakeholder engagement to an extend that they become concern if they do not see other stakeholders in our activities.
