At our site we have been avoiding to go on social media as we are not trained on what to address on social media and again we believe that the danger of social media is that it often transmits false information and can be used to spread damaging and false rumours. We are using only whats app and emails for meetings and sending of information of the links at the conferences and theminutes
MmapuleMemberIn our country South Africa community engagement plays a big role in the clinical trials. The cab members are not doing recruitment but they advise the site about recruitment and where to recruit. The side has built a very good relationship with the community and the community are able to protect the side when the are unrest in the townships. The site engage with the stakeholders about community dialogue and awareness about the trial. The is always an open communication and transperancy between the research staff and the community.
MmapuleMemberif the are insufficient resources create a platform for the site on any of the events like marathons and imbizos{gatherings) to educate the communities about the HIV/AIDS and Vaccines. Engage the communities in dialogues about the trials. Engage churches and schools and consults other stakeholders that work within the community to see how best they can help the site to reach accrual targets. Consults the ward councilors as being the major gatekeeper to refer the site to the organizations that are actively working in their areas.
MmapuleMemberEach of the HIV/AIDS research networks and their affiliated clinical research sites are required to have community engagement throughout their organization and at all stages of the research process. At the network level, the community is involved in developing research plans, setting research priorities and serving on scientific committees and protocol teams. At the site level, community research partnership help facilitate an exchange of information to ensure that community opinions and suggestions are discussed and addressed by the research team. This also allows for an ongoing exchange of information on all research projects.
MmapuleMemberResearchers and trial sponsors should consult stakeholders through a transparent and meaningful participatory process which involves them in an early and sustained manner in the design, development, implementation, monitoring and distribution of results of biomedical HIV prevention trials, and participation of individuals should be voluntary and selection of participating communities and individuals must be fair and justified in terms of the scientific goals of the research.
MmapuleMemberThe team members and the leadership has to ensure that they always give support to the stakeholder by providing meeting space, photocoppying materials, scheduling meetings, ect.Other types of support may include, but are not limited to, providing food for the meetings, reimbursement for transportation, providing access to computer, printer and phone for use.
The leaders must respect and recognize the capacity and rights of all individuals to make their own decisions.engagement with the stakeholders should be maintained throughout the study process; from the period before the trial begins until the Data is available for and disseminated to the lay public. Engaging all relevant stakeholders as active and informed partners in decision making about the proposed research and its implementation enhances both the scientific strength and ethical truth of clinical trials..
Lastely trust that stakeholders can contribute and add value.MmapuleMemberBy respecting each other and not undermining other people because respects build a good relationship and it goes a long way.
