Hello every one, sorry my introduction is very late. I am Anthonia, a Research Nurse / Community Outreach Officer working at Clinical Research Centre of Walter Reed Program in Nigera ( Abuja). I am excited doing this online course and I hope to learn more about GPP strategies and approaches. We are presently conducting clinical trials on Ebola vaccines

Its Moses saying a big hullo from Uganda to everyone who is here. I am a program coordinator working with CHEDRA (Community Health, Empowerment, Development and Relief Agency) in Uganda. We are glad with the partnership we have with IPM for the IPM -HIV prevention ring.
My curiosity in HIV related research started during my internship with Rakai Health Sciences Program in based in rural southern Uganda. Since then I got involved with several HIV research bodies . I am anxious about the what GPP has for me. I am sure I will become a changed person in view of conducting clinical trials and community engagement.
I more than open to sharing knowledge and ideas.

Hi All, My name is Richard de Rooij, I’m Dutch, meaning I’m from the Netherlands. I’m a MD, and I’m working in the vaccine development since 2009. In Sep 2015 I joined the HIV vaccine clinical development team in Janssen. I’m based in Leiden, and I live in the Hague. In my role as medical lead I’m co-responsible for the clinical development plan, the design and conduct of the clinical trials and the safety of the the volunteers that participate in our trials. We have a vaccine in development, using vectors and proteins, and so far the results look promising. We closely collaborate with the NIH. Recently I was invited by AVAC to talk about our program in Brussels. Maybe some of you attended. I’m looking forward to work with you, it is exiting seeing so many people from different nationalities and background. Cheers, Richard

Hi everybody
My name is Carolina Morán, and I am from Peru. I have been working with TB and HIV research around 5 years, but since the last year I have heard for the 1st time this term GPP and after looking information about this, I get very interesting trying to understand more about the implementation. I work for Socios en Salud Sucursal Perú in the quality and monitoring area for all research projects, so implement a component about GPP would improve our job.

Hello everyone,
My name is Kathrine Meyers. I am a social scientist working at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center, based in NY but with frequent travel to China where our HIV prevention projects are located. My work has been mostly in HIV prevention program implementation and policy advocacy. More recently I have been pulled into clinical trials of HIV prevention products, here in the US and in China. I am eager to learn all I can from this fantastic group of advocates and to become an articulate advocate for the need for GPP within clinical trials being planned in China on a general level and more specifically, how to engage community participation in a context that is hostile to civil society and stigmatizing of men who have sex with men. I look forward to our journey together!

Hi everyone,
I am currently a Global Trial Manager at Janssen R&D. I have been involved in HIV education at university where my passion for HIV prevention began. I started my career in clinical research in 2002 and have worked in various disease areas. In 2006, I ‘came home’ to work on projects within HIV and TB treatment was briefly involved in the vaginal ring project during a few years ago. For the past 1.5 I have been working on our HIV vaccine program, something in the 90s I never thought would be possible, nonetheless that I would have an opportunity to be working on it.
As a sponsor, we are looking to learn more and implement the GPP topic areas within our research programs and trials. I am looking forward to learn more about all of you and how, as various stakeholders, you are implementing GPP. Additionally, I would love to learn how, from your perspective, sponsors could effectively engage and implement the key elements.

Hi everyone:
I am your GPP course facilitator and will be working in partnership with Jessica. I have been an AVAC consultant since early 2011, during which time I contributed to a major revision of the second edition of the GPP guidelines. I worked closely with AVAC on the development of this GPP online training as well as other GPP resources and companion tools.
Aside from my work with AVAC, I bring a wide breadth of experience in biomedical HIV prevention research, international development, and capacity building for large scale public health programs. I fell in love with Africa as a university student in Tanzania in 1994, and after living and working all over the continent, I am now permanently based just outside Cape Town, South Africa with my partner and our five dogs.
I am so thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with such an experienced and diverse group of individuals. I can’t wait to get started on our GPP journey!

I worked in HIV prevention research for almost 14 years.I got my start working among drug users at risk of HIV by testing behavior modification tools within Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health for the first 5 years of my journey. My second and current leg in my HIV prevention journey has been as part of the community engagement team at Columbia Research Unit that tests different candidate HIV products that include HIV vaccines, long acting injectable PrEP and the infusion of broadly neutralizing antibodies.
While I have a rich history in community engagement, I understand that mechanisms by which to educate are ever evolving and I’m always looking to learn about new effective strategies.
I look forward to engaging with you all here and potentially in person at some conferences!

Hello everyone,
I am Mahesh Sherkar from India. I am working as Vice-Principal and Professor in Pharmaceutics at SVNHT’s College of Pharmacy, one of the leading college affiliated to Pune University. Apart from teaching we do research by developing novel drug delivery systems. In 2010 accidentally I saw AVAC site and started research on HIV by developing antiviral loaded nanoparticle dispersed vaginal gel. We worked in the past up to animal study (preclinical) I think and believes that GPP principles are important.
About GPP, I heard first time at HIV R4P 2014, Cape Town conference, and tried to join from first batch. Thanks Jessica, Anne to give me opportunity to join GPP course this time and award me honored to became a classmate of such wonderful friends.
I am happy, excited, and little bit nervous about course, because first time I am doing online course

Hi everyone,
I am Evelien van den Broecke, living in Belgium. Since a year I transitioned in the role of junior global trial manager in an HIV trial but before I was a CRA working on different topics. I am looking forward to learning new things (as GPP is completely new for me). The most I look forward to share ideas/opinions with all of you as it is always gets very beneficial and interesting when people with different backgrounds come together to discuss one and the same topic 🙂

Excited to see everyone posting on the forum already! My name is Jessica Salzwedel and I am one of your facilitators. I am a program coordinator at AVAC. My work focuses on supporting implementation of the Good Participatory Practices Guidelines and literacy translation. I love basic science research, particularly the work that is happening around HIV cure research. Prior to AVAC I worked at the Division of AIDS in the Research Ethics Branch.

Hello everyone. I am happy to be a co-learner with you all. My name is Iwalokun Bamidele. I work at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR). My current research trust is the survey of diarrhea, malnutrition, fever and their socio-demographic, environmental, human and animal determinants in 3 urban slums in Nigeria. This survey is a longitudinal one and it will involve zinc intervention trials. In as much as I have previously worked with communities, working with people living in a slum is quite different because of the micro-variation in the distribution of the limited infrastructures that exist in a slum.
I am highly expectant of the quantum of knowledge and skill I hope to acquire from this online course.

Hello everyone. I’m happy to be joining this group to learn more.
I’ve lived with HIV/AIDS for twenty-nine years and have served on various Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee, USA) and network community advisory boards since 2001. With the support of many organizations, I share what I learn by providing training and presentations to diverse community and professional audiences across Tennessee and beyond. In addition to AVAC and the US NIH HIV networks, I have worked as a community representative with the Tennessee Department of Health, the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the NIH’s National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and the Microbicides Trials Network.
I am intentionally a generalist – I like knowing a little about a lot of things (and more about some things!) and being someone who can connect different people and groups to acheive success in our work against HIV.

Hello My fellow learners,
I am Isaac Mshanga from Lusaka, Zambia, JUST CALL ME ISAAC. I am working with Zambart on the AERAS TB Vaccine/TB018 Study as a Community Engagement Officer. I have been working with Zambart in the community for sometime now and i feel it is important to learn more and new things about GPP.
Am so expectant, this will be my first time to take part in this online training and i have mixed feelings about it, anxiety of trying to figure out weather it will be easy or tough for me and how tough is a question some has to answer.

Dear All:
I’m a bit late in introducing myself but I wanted to be sure to do so. My name is Nancy Diaz and I work at the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie for short) in our Washington DC office. We also have offices in London and New Delhi (our main office). We are a grantmaking organization that funds impact evaluations and systematic reviews in low and middle income countries. I am the program manager for our HIV and AIDS programs and the lead on communications work and I also support the stakeholder engagement efforts of our grantees who are carrying out HIV prevention and treatment research throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. Some of the topics we fund include HIV self-testing, VMMC, integration of HIV services with other health services, and combination prevention (particularly universal test and treat).
I’m really looking forward to hearing more about what you all do and hope to learn as much as I possibly can!
