Communication, training along with free tests, inviting them on World health days, and arranging social gatherings works well while having GPP principles at the back of your mind.

We make our presence felt in the community and that makes the stakeholders have sense of belonging. We also engage stakeholders on the issues that relate them using GPP principles.

I agree with all of you, and your comments. Stakeholders involvement is important for stakeholders engagements and we will involve stakeholders through respectful communication, improving active participation in research, and hearing their ideas, input. By arranging social gathering, events, some special days community stakeholders will be involve.

I like the way Mark posed those questions. Same experience at our sight. So what we did was do a presentation using the same questions and answered them. Part of the presentation was a question and answer session at which point we also re-emphasised the fact that our participation is voluntary and that though there is no financial benefit but the knowledge obtained is priceless and free!!!

Since different categories of stakeholders are involve in clinical trials, it is important to have appropriate engagement plan for each category to be involved in a trial based on the goal and objectives set for GPP. All issues pertaining to each stakeholder group must be addressed before GPP implementation. Funding level is crucial for determining the stakeholder prioritization

We also organize workshops that covers HIV research literacy and there we have community stakeholders airing out their concerns about current research trends in Nigeria. So if not for their engagement, we might know how to make our trials more community driven

Its Important to get stakeholders involved, as part of community engagement, its important that community stakeholders especially do have an active voice in any issue or recommendations raised in a research.

Here are some questions you may sometimes hear:
“What’s in it for me (us)?”
“What have you done for me lately?”
      These are not unreasonable.

In other words, be a collaborator and a supporter and that will be returned to you.

Buying in the stakeholders is the first step. Identify your stakeholders for the programme you are doing and then see how you can partner with them for an effective outcome.

Our site organises workshops outside of the normal scheduled routine if there is a need for such. Some discussions may be of such that it cannot wait for the next meeting. We aim to be more visible in the communities so these forums are very helpful as Ella has also mentioned.
