My name is Atthaphon Sriwichai, everyone can call me “Bank”.
I Apologies to all that I joined this conversation very late because two weeks ago I have a lot of work to do.
Now, I’m employee of travel company and I’m volunteer supporter of HPTN083 (TRCARC).
I have been working on the PrEP Princess project in MSM and TG, site the Thai Red Cross Anonymous Clinic.
I’m taking this course because it’s very important to development the project to be perfect.
My favorite Thai food is Hang Lay Curry (Northern Style)

โดยส่วนตัวน้องแดร๊งค์เห็นว่า คำว่า TG (Transgender) นั้นมีทั้ง Transgender Women ซึ่งคือ จากผู้ชายไปเป็นผู้หญิง หรือคนไทยมีคำเรียกหลายคำว่า สาวประเภทสอง,กะเทย, ผู้หญิงข้ามเพศ เป็นต้น
และ Transgender Men ซึ่งคือ จากผู้หญิงไปเป็นผู้ชาย แต่ไม่ใช่ในความหมายของคำว่า ทอม ตามที่คนไทยคุ้นๆกัน แต่ในแวดวงมีการเรียกกันแบบทับศัพท์ไปเลยว่า ทรานส์แมน และคำว่า ผู้ชายข้ามเพศ

แต่หนูเห็นว่าคำว่า สาวประเภทสอง ยังเป็นคำที่มีการตีตราอยู่ในความหมายภายในคำอยู่ เพราะคำว่าประเภทสองสื่อถึงนัยยะในการแบ่งชนชั้นทางเพศ
ส่วนคำว่ากะเทย ในชุมชน transgender women บางคน ยินดีและไม่รู้สึกอะไรที่จะนิยามหรือถูกคนอื่นเรียกว่า กะเทย แต่ก็จะมีอีกส่วนที่ไม่ชอบและไม่อยากให้ถูกนิยามว่า กะเทย

คำศัพท์ที่หนูคิดว่าเป้นกลางและทำให้รู้สึกสบายใจที่สุดคือใช้ทับศัพท์(แบบย่อๆ) ไปเลยว่า ทรานส์
และคำว่า ผู้หญิงข้ามเพศ เป็นต้นค่ะ

ส่วนคำว่า Transgender community ซึ่งหมายถึงโดยรวม น่าจะใช้คำว่า ชุมชนคนข้ามเพศ ค่ะ

Personally the term TG (transgender) includes transgender women, which is a man transforms to a woman, and transgender man, which is a woman transform to a man. Thai words for transgender woman are second type women, katoey, cross sex woman. For transgender men it doesn’t Tom as most Thais assume for are familiar with. For TG community, English word is used, transman and cross sex man.
(For Anne: “katoey”is Thai for transvestite, lady boy, or trans-sexual. Udom)

However I think that the term second type women still a stigmatized term because it implies gender classification. As for the term “katoey”, in TG women community some people are pleased and don’t feel offended by it. Some don’t like and don’t want to be called “katoey”.

The term that I think is neutral and feel comfortable with is the abbreviate of English one – trans or cross sex women.

And transgender community, in general, the preferred term should be cross sex people community.

(For Anne: This discussion started because I wasn’t sure about what Thai words to use for TG, TG women. This is still controversial and different communities, different groups use or prefer different words. – Udom)

I work as a study coordinator for the research studies under the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT) Network at the Research Institute for Health Sciences, Chiang Mai University (RIHES, CMU). I am taking this cause because I would like to learn how to ensure community and stakeholder engagement in HIV treatment and prevention researches in vulnerable populations including pregnant women and their infants, children, and adolescents.

As for the Thai food, my favorite Thai food is “Kang Sapparod”. It is “Pineapple curry”.
