To ensure the community stakeholders understand the objectives of the trial which will be run in their region, it is imperative to begin those discussions earlier in the development process. For my current trial these discussions did occur, but not in the early development stage of the protocol. In the future I will ensure that these discussions start earlier in order to achieve transparency between the team members and stakeholders, as well as to reduce the amount of future protocol amendments.
