Vicarious Trauma and Trauma Informed Care (virtual)

June 5, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The theory of vicarious trauma acknowledges that people that provide the range of social services to people that have experienced trauma themselves has an impact of the provider. It is essential to understand the layers of trauma that exist in our clients lives to help understand how to form meaningful treatment relationships that do not perpetuate or cause undo harm. This course will focus on how to do no harm, help when you can, and how to save yourself along the way.

At the conclusion of this training, participants should be able to:

  • describe what vicarious trauma is.
  • identify two of the four layers of trauma.
  • consider how trauma plays a role in treatment with clients.
  • identify at least two symptoms that develop for social service provider when they are starting to approach burnout.
