This training provides a brief overview of drug related stigma and then takes a deeper dive into depressants and stimulants. We review consumption methods and effects of each drugs, as well as how to recognize andsupport someone who is in withdrawal, is too high, or is experiencing overdose of each substance we cover. Drugs reviewed in the session include: opioid ( heroin, Fentanyl, and prescription opioids), alcohol, meth, crack and cocaine. This session also provides information on safer use, and resources attendants can use with their participants.
Objectives:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the definition of a drug, and how drugs impact the body andbrain
- Identify four common drugs and their physical and psychological effects
- Understand how to identify and respond to withdrawal and overdose
- Provide appropriate and relevant information to participants about safer use practices.
