LINCS Syphilis

Welcome to the LINCS training Module for syphilis that will be in 3 lessons. This Module provides information you will need in your work with patients with syphilis.  You will learn about the characteristics of syphilis and how it is transmitted from one person to another.  The Module also covers syphilis and it’s stages with treatment aspects.  Finally, it will cover the Partner Services interview (IX) specific for LINCS.

 

Immunization Skills Training for EMTs Module 2

Welcome to the SF Emergency Medical Services Agency Immunization Skills Training for EMTs Module 2. Please plan to have 1-2 hours set aside to take this course.

  • Course Overview: Discusses general principles of vaccination. Explains scope of practice for EMTs to administer COVID-19 vaccines. Describes IM injection techniques in detail, including dosing, drawing up vaccine, reconstituting vaccines (for informational purposes only), proper injection technique, and documentation.
  • Method of Evaluation: Online 20 question test; must receive a passing score of 85% or higher to be eligible to administer IM injections to patients aged 14 and older
  • Learning Objectives:
    • Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
    • Discuss general principles of vaccination
    • Have a clear understanding of the scope of practice for EMTs to administer COVID-19 vaccines
    • Understand and be prepared to demonstrate best practices for vaccine administration
    • Understand the basics of storing and transporting refrigerated, frozen, and ultra-low temperature vaccines

Paramedic Vaccination Administration Program Module 1

Welcome to the SF Emergency Medical Services Agency Paramedic Vaccination Administration Program Module 1. Please plan to have 1-2 hours set aside to take this course.

Course Overview: Discusses public health principles of infectious disease, influenza, and general principles of vaccination. Describes process for paramedics and EMTs to administer IM injections. Provides a basic understanding of vaccine storage and handling. Shares basic information about all five COVID-19 vaccines currently in Phase III US Trials with a special focus on mRNA vaccine technology.

Method of Evaluation: Online 20 question test; must receive a passing score of 85% or higher to be eligible to administer IM injections to patients aged 14 and older

Learning Objectives:

  • Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
    • Briefly discuss public health principles for infectious disease and influenza
    • Discuss general principles of vaccination
    • Describe procedure for vaccination of EMS personnel, and high-risk populations
    • Discuss process for paramedics and EMTs to administer seasonal influenza vaccination to members of the public
    • Discuss process for paramedics and EMTs to administer COVID-19 (SARS-CoV2) vaccination to priority populations, when available
    • Understand the basics of storing and transporting refrigerated, frozen, and ultra-low temperature vaccines
    • Understand basic information about the five COVID-19 vaccine candidates, including how mRNA vaccines work to prevent COVID-19

Collecting information about Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SO/GI)

This is a 1-hour introduction to collecting information about sexual orientation and gender identity (SO/GI), practicing cultural humility in patient and client care. This course is intended for all DPH staff, contractors, and community partners who collect demographic and other information about clients, research participants, and community members or residents.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe concepts and terms related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer (L,G,B,T, Q) and gender-diverse patients and clients
  2. Explain why collecting sexual orientation and gender identity (SO/GI) data is important for health centers to provide better patient care and address health disparities
  3. Describe strategies for communicating effectively with L,G,B,T, Q and gender-nonconforming people on the front lines of health care
  4. Apply tools and strategies for collecting SO/GI data in a welcoming, confidential, and culturally appropriate manner

Adult Transgender Cultural Competence and Cultural Humility

This course is designed to educate service providers on important issues and trends affecting transgender people and their families, including several key issues related to the health and wellness of transgender communities.

The primary goals are to:

  1. Increase the SFDPH staff capacity to provide welcoming services to transgender individuals in a culturally appropriate way, and to
  2. Expand clinical knowledge and staff comfort levels to provide quality care to transgender individuals.
