Training Overview:
Realities of youth drug use, prevalence, and maturing out. How society impacts youth drug use and peer and social pressure. Drug use, developmental stage, and change in internal and external perception. Harm Reduction strategies for working with young people and drug use; questions for young people to consider and managing ourselves and our own countertransference.
Training Objectives:
- Identify at least one reason why using stigmatizing language affects treatment outcomes.
- Utilize harm reduction interventions and tools in the assessment and treatment of substance use and co-occurring disorders with young people.
- Integrate harm reduction practices within the provider’s routine clinical work with youth.
- Identify at least two ways that countertransference is important to pay attention to when working with young people and drug use.
