Training Overview:

Motivational interviewing (MI) requires practice with accompanying feedback. This practice-focused training is intended to be a highly interactive session for individuals who have already been trained on the basics of MI. We will focus on more advanced MI skills and participants both observe and practice giving one another feedback in a series of role play sessions. Attendance at an introductory motivational interviewing training is required.

At the conclusion of this training, participants should be able to:

  • Recall 5 strategies to effectively build motivation for change amongst program participants
  • Name the five clinical principles of motivational interviewing
  • Identify four types of resistance
  • List four clinical strategies

Continuing education units (CEUs) are available thanks to the Center for Learning and Innovation (CLI) for the following disciplines:  

  • Certified Addiction Professionals (CCAPP)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW)
  • Licensed Educational Psychologists (LEP)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT)
  • Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC)
  • Registered Nurses (RN)
