SUMMARY:Vicarious Trauma and Trauma Informed Care (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:This training will introduce audience members to the basic principles of Trauma Informed Care (TIC) and vicarious trauma. We will explore how application of this approach can enhance collaboration between providers and individuals who use substances and struggle with mental health disorders as well as the impact of trauma in providers working in helping professions. Audience members will also learn how TIC and harm reduction intersect\, the role of vicarious trauma\, stigma\, and best practices for trauma-informed conflict management and de-escalation. \nAt the conclusion of this training\, participants should be able to: \n\nRecall the principles of Trauma Informed Care\nDefine and identify vicarious trauma and its impact on helping professionals\nDescribe the symbiotic relationship between Harm Reduction and Trauma Informed Care\nSummarize the need for a trauma informed approach when working with people who use substances and also struggle with mental health challenges\nDiscuss the role of stigma and how it affects the provider/patient relationship\n\nFacilitator: Tanagra Melgarejo\, MSW\, National Harm Reduction Coalition \nOrganized by the Health and Recovery Training Institute
