SUMMARY:Dual Diagnosis
DESCRIPTION:Training Overview: \nMore than 50% of people who have a substance use disorder have a co-occurring mental health disorder.  It is the rule\, not the exception\, with trauma almost universal among people who misuse substances.  Yet more than half of young people who misuse drugs will mature out of a problematic relationship with drugs by the age of 30.  Who are they?  Who doesn’t?  And how can we help increase the likelihood that they will? This workshop will focus on the unique interactions between individual’s drugs and mental health – highlighting the medicinal and social benefits as well as the harms. \nTraining Objectives: \n\nRecognize at least one reason how stigmatizing language contributes negatively to clinician countertransference.\nIdentify at least two mental conditions closely associated with substance use.\nDescribe what adverse childhood experiences are.\nIdentify effects of at least two substances on a person’s mental health.\n\nFacilitator: Maurice Byrd\, LMFT (He/Him/His) \nOrganized By: The Harm Reduction Training Institute
